It’s the heart of the summer, and we've had some scorchers around here lately. Hope you're staying cool and getting the most out of summer...these longer days will be gone before you know it. Speaking of summer scorchers, I wanted to drop a quick line to tell you about a couple of shows you won’t wanna miss if you live or or happen to find yourself in the Northeast next weekend. More Klementines is back in action on a bill that rivals any I’ve seen all summer. Separately and together, Howlin Rain and Garcia Peoples have been burning up the US tour circuit over the past couple years in support of the insanely good records they’ve put out, and they’ve teamed up again for a six-date run up the East Coast. More Klementines is beyond psyched to join them at the Space Ballroom in Hamden, CT on Friday, August 9. Their debut LP is still out of print, but we’ll have the last available test pressing copy on hand at the show. Come hang and boogie with us!
Then the next day Spiral Wave Nomads plays Belltower Records’ 2nd annual Summer Jam in North Adams, MA. This all-day event kicks off at noon and features a stacked lineup of some of the most compelling acts around. On the heels of their critically acclaimed debut LP, this will be the Nomads first ever show!
Since its release in May, Spiral Wave Nomads has been in heavy rotation at stations like WFMU and KFJC, as well as some killer podcasts, and reviews have been stellar...
Aquarium Drunkard's Tyler Wilcox called it "extremely tasty instrumental psych" and everything on the debut LP "a treat, whether they’re soaring along on a Hallo Gallo-esque breeze or hypnotizing with some deep-fried sitar jams." While Raven Sings the Blues called it "a shimmering batch of psych-ragas that are burnt to the core." For more commentary go here. But really, you should just listen for yourself and grab a copy if you feel so inclined...here.
